ComEd, Ameren Offer Rebates for Energy Efficiency in Illinois

CHICAGO — Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) and Ameren will launch an energy-conservation program for Illinois commercial and industrial consumers of electricity. The plan, which will be detailed later this month, will reward energy-efficient consumers.The multiyear program will include rebates of up to $50 per lighting fixture. Rebates will also be available for equipment such as air conditioners and motors. ComEd is expected to spend more than $84 million over the next three years on the program.The program will also provide incentives for building designers, architects and owners who create energy-efficient structures.Applications for energy assistance will be available in June.ComEd is the largest electric utility in Illinois, serving the Chicago and Northern Illinois area. Ameren also provides electricity to Illinois customers.While this program is limited to a certain area, it still should serve as a reminder to coin laundry owners. Check with your utility company to see if it offers any type of business-assistance programs, energy audits, etc.
