MATTAPOISETT, Mass. — The Mattapoisett Laundromat collected more than 120 coats on behalf of the One Warm Coat nonprofit organization Jan. 11-17. All of the coats collected were donated to Child & Family Services in New Bedford, Mass., to be distributed to those in need.Customers, employees and other community members donated gently used and new coats, as well as hats, mittens and snow pants.“We wanted to give back to the community,” Doreen Gomes, manager of Mattapoisett Laundromat and organizer of the coat drive, told GateHouse News. “This is our second year sponsoring a ‘One Warm Coat’ drive, and both years we’ve collected over a hundred coats.”One Warm Coat is national nonprofit organization that supports and encourages coat drives. It helps individuals, groups, companies and organizations collect coats and deliver them to local agencies that distribute the coats free to people in need.“More people than ever need help these days,” Sherri Wood, president and national coordinator for One Warm Coat, told GateHouse News. “I am proud of the thousands of coat drive organizers whose creativity and generosity of spirit are making a real difference in their own communities.”Child & Family Services is a private, nonprofit organization that helps people in the community.“The coats we receive from the Mattapoisett Laundromat are greatly appreciated,” Susan Remy, development director for Child & Family Services, told GateHouse News. “It is the generosity from local businesses, [such as the Mattapoisett Laundromat], that supports our mission to help children and families.”
