Laundry Pickup and Delivery Service Adds More Partners

HappyNest brand expansion continues

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. — Tech-enabled laundry pickup and delivery service HappyNest is continuing to expand with the additions of several new locations throughout the country, the company reports.

HappyNest has partnered with the following laundry owners in the last two months to add residential pickup and delivery service to their walk-in business:

Glenn and Rowena Catlin, Houston and Katy, Texas — The Catlins, both nurses by trade, had been successful Subway franchise owners in New England before a move to Houston three years ago got them into the laundry industry.

“I have always been the entrepreneurial type,” Glenn says, “and I was looking for something we could do together to reduce the hours around the hospital for Rowena. I found a great property in the Houston area, bought it sight unseen, and as soon as we relocated, I started researching the Laundromat industry and realized that was why we were there.”

The couple started discussing the idea of pickup and delivery when they purchased their second store.

“I learned everything I could about starting, operating and scaling this type of business and realized I needed real help to make this a legitimate business on top of what I had going on in my stores,” Glenn says.

Bob Schwartz, Montgomery County, Md. — “HappyNest has had great success in Maryland overall but we had a gaping hole in Montgomery County and we wanted to be sure we had the best partner possible to fill the void,” says HappyNest founder John MacKrell.

Schwartz has been in the laundry industry since 1996 when he purchased his first store in Fredericksburg, Va. Over the years, he had bought, retooled and sold several locations from Pennsylvania through Virginia, currently operating 24 SuperSuds locations in the Mid-Atlantic region.

“We have been in the pickup and delivery business for four years but it hadn’t scaled as I expected, so we started to study what the issues were and learn what the successful owners were doing to make it work,” says Schwartz.

Beatriz Patzan and Jose Piedra, Boston — Patzan and Piedra have been in the laundry industry for about 15 years and have specialized in the pickup and delivery business in the Boston/Rhode Island area for the past six years, HappyNest says. They plan on making it a family affair as the couple’s two daughters will be assisting with production in their Laundromat.

“HappyNest has been growing rapidly along the East Coast but we have been pretty methodical in our search close to our home base in Rhode Island,” MacKrell says. “Beatriz and Jose worked for HappyNest in the very beginning of all this, so bringing them back into the fold will be a real treat.”

“Having worked for John supervising his pickup and delivery business, I learned so much about the daily operations that it should be second nature starting this adventure,” Piedra says. “I can’t thank HappyNest enough for the opportunity to own and operate my own business.”
