Guardsman Arrested in Coin Laundry Killing

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Christopher Levitt, a Texas National Guardsman, was arrested last Friday in connection with the slaying of a Kalamazoo coin laundry worker. Levitt, 21, was arrested in San Antonio, Texas, by Kalamazoo Dept. of Public Safety detectives, the Texas Rangers and military police on a warrant charging him with an open count of murder in the death of 59-year-old Daniel McNeill, according to Daniel Weston, Kalamazoo Dept. of Public Safety chief.McNeill died shortly after officers found him badly injured at about 4 a.m. Aug. 7 at Stadium Drive Laundry and Cleaners in Kalamazoo, where he had worked for 18 years. Police say McNeill was assaulted during an apparent robbery and they believe more than one person was involved. Levitt had worked at the laundry recently, Weston added. The investigation is continuing.Weston says he was told that Levitt had waived extradition and will be returning to Michigan.
