DURHAM, N.C. — Two local Wash House Laundromats will host a LaundryCares Foundation Free Laundry Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, to benefit the local community.
In addition to free laundry services and detergent provided at Wash House sites at 2000 Chapel Hill Road and 1839 Liberty St., free food will be served, and there will be fun activities for children and adults, organizers say.
Many families in underserved communities visit Laundromats each week to fulfill the basic need of having clean clothes, and the Wash House Laundromats, in conjunction with LaundryCares, is excited and honored to offer this service at no cost on Feb. 23. Guests can bring an unlimited amount of laundry to the event and will receive free laundry products to help clean their clothes.
Additionally, Wash House is partnering with literacy organizations Book Harvest and Libraries Without Borders to provide educational opportunities for children during their visit. Supervised enrichment activities will include reading, face painting and more, and Book Harvest will provide books for all children who attend. There will also be a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new “Wash and Learn” space at the Liberty Street location.
“The Wash House Laundromats are excellent host locations for such a meaningful and charitable event,” says Brian Wallace, executive director of LaundryCares. “The owners have big hearts, and the way they run their business serves to improve the perception of Laundromats by developing beautifully appointed stores that offer learning engagement resources for their patrons’ families.”
