WASHINGTON — In what could be seen as good news for the coin laundry industry, factory shipments of major home appliances such as washers and dryers continued their negative run in August.The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) is reporting that unit shipments of major appliances fell 6.2% year-over-year to 4.8 million major appliances for the month of August, and are down 7.4% year to date.Home laundry as a whole fell 10.6% with gas dryers leading the negative run down 19%, while unit shipments of washing machines declined 8.4%.The AHAM 6, a composite category that includes the core washer, dryer, dishwasher, refrigerator, freezer, range and oven sectors, showed unit shipments were down 10.2% in August to 3.2 million pieces and are off 8.1% for the year.
