ATLANTA — The Clean Executive Committee has selected Shepard Exposition Services to serve as general contractor for Clean 2015 here in April, reports the show’s management company, Riddle & Associates.

Firestone Financial Relocates to New HQ, Signs Multi-Year Credit Facility

NEEDHAM, Mass. — Firestone Financial Corp., a direct lender that provides Laundromat financing, reports that it has relocated its headquarters to 117 Kendrick St. here in Needham.

Firestone says the move allows it to “double its size to accommodate the growth of the company,” which currently has 49 employees and $188 million of assets under management.

CG West Conference Focuses on Boosting Store Profits

SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif. — Best practices in boosting store profits was the focus of Continental Girbau West’s (CG West) recent annual Conference of Champions Profit Symposium, which saw an increase in attendance among vended laundry owners, the distributor says.

“We had more customers arrive our first morning this year than both days last year,” says Tod Sorensen, Continental Girbau Inc. sales manager – Western U.S. “Every attendee said they learned something that would either make them more money or save them more money. We were very happy with the success of the event.”

WASH Multifamily Laundry Systems Earns Speed Queen Honor

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Multi-housing laundry facilities management services provider WASH Multifamily Laundry Systems was recently honored with Speed Queen’s 2013 Multi-Housing Sales Award of Excellence for its sales effforts and contributions to the multi-family laundry industry, the company reports.

WASH adds that the recognition marks the sixth time it has received the award from Speed Queen.

Huebsch Names Houston Operator Inaugural ‘Store Owner of the Quarter’

RIPON, Wis. — Commercial laundry equipment manufacturer Huebsch has named Joseph Koyithara, owner of the Houston (Texas) West Airport Washateria, as its first Store Owner of the Quarter, the company reports.

Huebsch will recognize four owners from across the country that excel in areas such as entrepreneurism, technology adoption, innovation, and customer and community service, the company says.

EPA Seeks Small-Biz Input on Lead Paint Use on Public, Commercial Buildings

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is inviting small businesses to participate as consultants to a Small Business Advocacy Review (SBAR) Panel, as the agency considers steps to reduce lead-based paint exposure from the renovation, repair and painting of public and commercial buildings, as required by the Toxic Substances Control Act, the EPA reports.

HAYWARD, Calif. — Commercial laundry equipment distributor Western State Design (WSD) was recently awarded top honors at Dexter Laundry’s annual meeting, receiving the “No. 1 in Dexter Sales Worldwide” award, and the President’s Award for Sales Excellence in 2013, the company reports.

This is the fifth consecutive year that WSD has received the award as No. 1 leader in Dexter sales worldwide, the company adds.

Gasoline Prices Projected to Fall by End of Summer Driving Season: EIA

WASHINGTON — Drivers can expect to see average regular retail gasoline prices to fall this summer driving season from $3.66 per gallon in May to $3.46 per gallon in September, according to projections recently released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) in its Short-Term Energy and Summer Fuels Outlook.

Regular gasoline retail prices during the April-September summer driving season are projected to average $3.57 per gallon, according to the EIA.

U.S. Census Bureau Shines Light on Laundromat History

WASHINGTON — The self-service laundry industry hit a milestone this month, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the opening of the first public, self-operated laundry in the United States, the U.S. Census Bureau reports.

Initially called “Washateria,” the facility opened for business April 14, 1934, in Fort Worth, Texas, and was eventually renamed with the commonly used term Laundromat, according to the Census Bureau.

WASH’s Coffey Named EY Entrepreneur of Year Semifinalist

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — WASH Multifamily Laundry Systems President/CEO Adam Coffey was recently named a semifinalist for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2014 Award in greater Los Angeles, the company reports.
