SBA to Host Free Disaster Preparedness Webinars

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), in conjunction with Agility Recovery, will be hosting a series of free webinars in September on the topic of disaster preparedness.

Each year, small businesses nationwide are forced to close their doors in the aftermath of severe storms, flooding, tornadoes, wildfires and hurricanes, says the SBA, and business interruptions, even if one lasts just a few hours, are costly in terms of lost productivity and profits.

CLA Sets Stage for Laundry Fest ’13

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. – The Crowne Plaza Minneapolis (Minn.) North is preparing for the 2013 Upper Midwest Laundry Fest, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18-19, according to the Coin Laundry Association (CLA).

In addition to networking, coin laundry store owners will have the opportunity to attend educational sessions hosted by fellow laundry owners and industry leaders, including CLA President and CEO Brian Wallace; Jeff Gardner, “The Laundry Doctor” and president of the Minnesota CLA; and Jeffrey Barman, president of the Southern California CLA.

Mac-Gray Revenue, Net Income Higher During Second Quarter

WALTHAM, Mass. — Mac-Gray, provider of laundry facilities management services, saw its revenue and net income increase for second-quarter 2013, according to its latest financial report.

Revenue increased to $79.2 million, compared with $77.8 million in second-quarter 2012, while net income increased to $1.2 million, up from $1.1 million from the same period in 2012.

Demand for Apartments Remains Strong Despite Financing Obstacles

WASHINGTON – Though demand for apartment homes remains strong, rising interest rates have hindered the industry’s ability to secure debt financing, according to the National Multi Housing Council’s (NMHC) July 2013 Quarterly Survey of Apartment Market Conditions.

The Sales Volume Index dropped from 55 to 46, marking the second time in the last three quarters that the index was below the breakeven line of 50. The Equity Financing Index dipped slightly below breakeven, dropping seven points to 49.

Western State Design Pledges Portion of Dexter Sales to Veterans Charity

HAYWARD, Calif. — Laundry equipment distributor Western State Design has pledged to donate $1 per pound of rated capacity for all Dexter Laundry coin-op washers and dryers that it sells through year’s end to a charity benefiting Armed Forces veterans and their families.

The donations will be given to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, which has provided close to $150 million in support of families of military personnel lost in service, and for severely wounded military personnel and veterans, since being created in 2000. A full 100% of donations go directly to the Fund’s programs.

Continental Reveals 2012 Distributor of the Year Awards

OSHKOSH, Wis. — Fowler Equipment Co., Bloomfield, N.J., recently received equipment manufacturer Continental Girbau’s 2012 Vended Laundry Distributor of the Year award, an honor that distinguishes distributors for outstanding performance in the vended laundry market.

Simultaneously, Coronet Equipment, Edmonton, Alberta, received Continental’s Canadian Distributor of the Year award for outstanding sales and distribution in both the vended and on-premise laundry markets.

CLA Recognizes Industry Leaders, Presents Reed with Founder’s Award

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. — The Coin Laundry Association (CLA) applauded industry leaders during its 2013 Annual Meeting recently in New Orleans, presenting the prestigious Founder’s Award, Affiliate of the Year, and other honors. In all, 16 industry leaders were recognized for “their pursuit of excellence and tireless commitment to improving the laundry industry.”

Bill Reed, who CLA says logged more than four decades of selfless service to others and the industry, received the Founder’s Award.

ADC Honors Hercules Corp. with Inaugural Martin Slutsky Award

NEW ORLEANS — ADC (American Dryer Corp.) kicked off its Clean Show 2013 with a bam, hosting a customer appreciation party at Emeril’s New Orleans the night before the show opened. And to end the festive evening, CEO Joe Bazzinotti presented his company’s first ever Martin Slutsky Award to Hercules Corp.

Hercules is the largest family-owned laundry room outsource provider in the country, ADC says, and has been a leader in the New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania multi-housing markets for more than 50 years.

Huebsch Names Metropolitan Laundry Machinery 2012 Distributor of Year

RIPON, Wis. — Vended laundry equipment brand Huebsch recently named Metropolitan Laundry Machinery Sales Inc. its 2012 Distributor of the Year. The honor marks the 12th time that Metropolitan has been recognized by the Wisconsin-based manufacturer since becoming an authorized distributor in 1996.

Metropolitan earned the award based on overall increase in sales from 2011, as well as its devotion to professionalism, employee training and customer support, Huebsch says.
