ACI, CLA Partner to Educate on Proper Storage of Laundry Packets

WASHINGTON — The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) reports it has partnered with the Coin Laundry Association (CLA) as part of its efforts in educating the public on how to safely store liquid laundry packets and their containers before, during and after the laundry process.

If not properly stored, ACI says, liquid laundry packets can cause “serious harm if accidentally ingested or exposed to the eyes.”

Accidents involving liquid laundry packets don’t just happen at home, the organization adds, but can also occur in public spaces, including Laundromats.

Continental Girbau Opens Doors to New Express Laundry Centers

OSHKOSH, Wis. — Continental Girbau Inc. (Continental) recently opened several new locations of its Express Laundry Centers™, a turnkey vended laundry store that utilizes the company’s brand of equipment, services, marketing assistance and management support.

The Express Laundry Centers offer a 60-minute wash-dry-fold, quick customer turnover and low utilities, according to the company.

Speed Queen Raises More Than $20K for Breast Cancer Research

RIPON, Wis. — Vended laundry equipment manufacturer Speed Queen reports it has raised $20,330 to support breast cancer research and awareness, as a result of its two-month partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) and the sale of its limited-edition home-style washers and dryers.

“In this second year of our partnership with BCRF surrounding Breast Cancer Awareness month, we set our fundraising goal even higher,” says Jay McDonald, vice president of North American Home Laundry Sales for Alliance Laundry Systems, parent company of Speed Queen.

Continental Girbau Hosts Max Sacks Training for Company Distributors, Sales Reps

OSHKOSH, Wis. — Laundry equipment manufacturer Continental Girbau Inc. recently hosted the Max Sacks Intl. sales training course, titled “Track Selling System: The Complete Selling Process,” at its headquarters here for Continental distributors and sales representatives.

Led by Ron Holm of Max Sacks Intl., course content featured Track Selling, which Continental says is a method that includes a seven-step sales process utilizing “the six buying motives (why people buy) and the five universal buying decisions (how people buy).”

University Honors Alliance Laundry Systems as Business of Year

FOND DU LAC, Wis. — Commercial laundry equipment manufacturer Alliance Laundry Systems was recently named 2014 Business of the Year by Marian University, the company reports.

For 33 years, the Business and Industry Awards program—which helps raise scholarship funds for students in the Marian University School of Business and Public Safety—has recognized Wisconsin organizations and leaders who have made a “significant, positive contribution” to their organization and community, according to Alliance.

Better Education on Dangers of Liquid Detergent Packets Needed: ACI Survey

WASHINGTON — Results of a recent survey conducted by the American Cleaning Institute (ACI) reveal low consumer awareness of both the risks involved with liquid laundry detergent packets and the preventive measures needed to be taken before, during and after the laundry process, ACI reports.

The survey, conducted as part of ACI’s KEY Pledge safety education campaign to help keep children safe from the accidental exposures to liquid laundry detergent packets, polled 1,000 parents and caregivers with young children (ages 0-4), all of whom use such packets.

NMHC: Apartment Markets Expand for Third Straight Quarter

WASHINGTON — For the third quarter in a row, apartment markets expanded across all four areas in the National Multifamily Housing Council’s (NMHC) recent Quarterly Survey of Apartment Market Conditions. All four indexes remained above 50, indicating growth from the previous quarter, the NMHC reports.

The market tightness index fell from 68 to 52, with 52% of respondents reporting unchanged conditions from three months ago. Roughly a quarter believed that conditions were tighter, while 22% reported looser conditions.

Queens Chamber Honors Automatic Industries’ Savino-Erichsen

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — The Queens Chamber of Commerce recently honored Denise Savino-Erichsen, president of multi-housing laundry equipment and services provider Automatic Industries, as part of its 2014 Business Person of the Year Awards.

Since 1994, the chamber has recognized “outstanding Queens business leaders and entrepreneurs” through its annual Business Person of the Year Awards, according to the chamber’s website, honoring local business men and women in different categories.

This year, Savino-Erichsen was honored as the chamber’s “Woman-Owned Business Champion.”

Speed Queen Raises Funds in Fight Against Breast Cancer

RIPON, Wis. — Vended laundry equipment manufacturer Speed Queen has once again partnered with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) in support of breast cancer awareness and research.

For every limited-edition, home-style washer and dryer pair sold between Sept. 15 and Nov. 15, Speed Queen will donate $20 to BCRF, the company says. The pink-accented machines are available at select independent retailers across the country.
