SBA Launches 2014 Emerging Leaders Initiative

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has launched its 2014 Emerging Leaders (formerly e200) executive-level intensive entrepreneurship training initiative for small-business owners in 27 cities across the country, SBA reports.

In its seventh consecutive year, the program has trained more than 2,000 small-business owners in underserved communities, SBA says, and continues to expand its impact helping small businesses grow and create jobs. Participating cities added to the initiative this year include Washington, D.C.; Miami; Wichita, Kan.; and Newark, N.J.

CLA Sets Stage for Second Excellence in Laundry Conference

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. — The Coin Laundry Association (CLA) will host its second biennial Excellence in Laundry Conference May 14-15 at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Fla., the association reports.

Launched in 2012, the Excellence in Laundry Conference features educational sessions, networking opportunities and exhibits, with the goal of helping self-service laundry owners improve and grow their business.

SAMCO Hires Nolan as COO, Adds Yongue to Staff

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. — Southern Automatic Machinery Co. (SAMCO) has hired Brett Nolan as its chief operating officer, the company reports. He is responsible for day-to-day operations, with a focus on updating and modernizing systems and procedures.

Nolan previously worked for SAMCO as a service technician and sales representative, according to the company. He returns to the commercial laundry equipment distributor’s staff after a year working as the regional manager for a small chain of Laundromats in Savannah, Ga.

Distributor Raises More Than $40,000 for Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund

NEW YORK — Coin laundry equipment distributor Western State Design (WSD) has completed a six-month fundraising campaign for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund (IFHF), recently donating $40,700 to the organization, the company reports.

IFHF, an organization supporting the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families, is building a series of nine treatment facilities at military installations around the country for wounded service personnel diagnosed with traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress as a result of their service, according to WSD.

Advanced Laundry Systems Adds Kim to Sales Team

GOLDEN, Colo. — Advanced Laundry Systems has appointed Hana Kim to its sales team, the company reports. In this newly created position, Kim will focus on growing coin laundry sales for the equipment distributor serving Colorado, Wyoming and surrounding areas.

Electrolux to Spend $85 Million on North American HQ Expansion

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Electrolux is adding 810 new local jobs and expanding its North American headquarters, its second expansion at this location in three years, the company reports.

The new jobs, to be added by the end of 2017, will be in the areas of research and development, marketing, design, engineering, supply chain, finance, information technology and executive management.

Jack Truong, president and CEO of Electrolux Major Appliances North America, was joined by North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory to celebrate the announcement.

Alliance Laundry Systems’ McDonald Assumes Newly Created Role

RIPON, Wis. — Alliance Laundry Systems has promoted Jay McDonald to the newly created position of vice president of Speed Queen North American home laundry sales, the company reports. McDonald was vice president of business development for the company prior to the promotion.

In his new role, McDonald will be responsible for the development and implementation of strategies to expand the home dealer network and drive the success of the home laundry product line, which the company is calling a “new growth opportunity.”
